ロンドン・バービカン、シェイクスピア・タワーの一室の改修計画。日本での生活経験をもつ施主との対話を通して、日本建築の空間言語とバービカンの重量あるコンクリート躯体との関係性を探りました。荒い出しや畳、木製スクリーンといった質感のある要素を、既存の構造や都市の眺望と緊張関係の中で再構成しました。中央の非構造テラゾー円柱をアンカーに、異なる文化的文脈を結びつける空間を立ち上げました。Renovation of an apartment in Shakespeare Tower, Barbican, London. Developed through close dialogue with clients who had lived in Japan for many years, the project explored the meeting of traditional Japanese spatial language and the weighty modernist concrete structure of the Barbican. Arai-dashi stone, tatami, and timber screens were set in tension with the existing structure and panoramic city views. A non-structural terrazzo column and perimeter flooring act as a mediator, bridging contrasting architectural languages. The result is a site- and client-specific dialogue that transcends culture and style.
